Sunset Near

Photo I took of the clouds while I was attending the Park Wolfpack High School football game. The clouds were lit up very nicely with the setting sun. Shortly after this photo, the temperatures cooled with the absence of the sun.

Stars And Stripes In The Sky

Okay, make that one bright star and many strange striped clouds. So my wife calls me around 5:15 today and asks me if I had the camera with me, I did thankfully. She said I should grab the camera and take some photos of the clouds. She'd never seen anything like this before in her lifetime. What she described from her vantage point was there is the sun, low in the horizon with cloud rays coming from it [sort of like when you see sun rays through the clouds, but these were actually clouds] and the tube like clouds were from one part of the horizon to the other side.

She peaked my curiosity, I grabbed the camera and went outdoors to see the sky. I opened the door and there they were, just as she described. It was amazing seeing clouds like this. I can't explain how or why they were like this, I'd have to ask the local weather boy on this one. The photos don't do it justice as I couldn't capture the entire sky, but the cloud stripes were there from the western horizon all the way over to the eastern horizon, to the north and south as you can see in the smaller photos below.

Today's Ray Of Hope

I snapped this photo at the four way stop sign in Cottage Grove. The roads are Jamaica Avenue and 80th street. This photo is about a month old and was from the batch of photos of an amazing storm clouds that rolled through the Twin Cities.

Purple Rain Sky

I posted a couple of photos from this location taken a bit over a week ago now. The sky was an odd pinkish purple this evening while a storm was passing through to the north. I really liked the sky in this one and how it reflected so well on to the pond below. This was just a few minutes later from the same location as the sun set a bit more.

Natures Bug Zapper

Another photo from the storm that rolled through the Twin Cities a couple of days ago. This was a storm that produced a lot of large sized hail, anywhere from nickel size to softball sized hail. Thankfully, the hail damage was no where to be found in my city. However, the cities north and south received hail. As I was taking photos of the passing storm, I managed to capture a bit of lightning in one shot. It's nothing spectacular, but I will count this as my first lightning shot I've ever taken.

Everybody Seems So Happy Today In The Sunshine Day

I took this photo about an hour before yesterdays massive thunderstorm cloud photo. I was just at the start of my journey, heading to Woodbury for my errands. I could see the sun shining partly through the the clouds and what a site it was. The problem was, there were houses, trees and many other obstructions in the way for a clean shot of the clouds. The clouds were moving fast and my chance to get a great shot that I was seeing was only available for a short time. I was watching the sun and the clouds movement and it looked like I was going to get the sun behind the sprout of clouds in the photo, but I had to move fast. I knew up ahead was a corn field that may give me a chance at a great photo opportunity. I hit the gas and sped on my way to the open area and just made it in time as the cloud/sun pattern changed very rapidly as the approaching storm rolled around the Twin Cities. Clouded Visions

I'm not sure if any of the other local daily photo photographers were out and about Wednesday evening with the threat of severe thunderstorms were rolling to the north and south of the Twin Cities, the clouds were a sight of beauty. Massive height on the clouds, the sun setting low, pink sky everywhere. I was returning home from running a couple of errands. I watched the sky over the past couple of hours, just in awe as they changed and moved across the sky. Then an idea struck me....I need to find a body of water and get some type of reflection shot of the clouds on water. Problem was, there wasn't anything around. I'm driving on a main road in Woodbury. Reflections are not going to happen. Not a problem, I can get a great shot of the clouds at the very least. Then I saw it, a small man made pond next to a bank! Yes! Well, sort of. The way the bank, the pond, small small pond and the clouds all lined up, I was only able to get the business buildings and trees as reflection, I needed a larger lake, but the sky is oh so beautiful.

Where's Your Other Hand....Between Two Pillows?

There was this massive cloud bank to the east on Saturday. I had to take a photo of it. I also wasn't alone. Head over to St Paul Daily Photo by Carol for a different view of the very same cloud bank! It really was impressive as the east had the beautiful clouds in the photo, while the rest of the entire sky was completely cloudless and full of blue. I had to drive around for a bit to get rid of the house and trees to get a clear view of the sky.
