Saint Paul Cathedral

I've taken quite a few photos of the Saint Paul Cathedral, but I'm never really happy with them. The colors always seem off from what I want them to look like. I thought I'd try shadowing the photo border would help a bit.

Bottom Of The Hill

The Saint Paul Cathedral was built on the highest hill in the city of St Paul so it could be seen from almost anywhere in the city. It is true, you can see it from many areas, plus it's visible from several cities away in certain places.

Josias R. King

Following up from my May 31 update, I had wrote about a very tall statue that overlooked the capital building and downtown St Paul. I had thought the statue was erected for the first settler to the area.

The statue is for Josias R. King. Enlisted in Co. A of the First Minnesota Infantry on 4/29/1861. King is often thought to be the First Volunteer to the Union Army, though Aaron Greenwald and 5 other men enlisted in Anoka, Minnesota earlier that day. Josias survived the war and Aaron did not. Thus Aaron was not around to defend his case, and Josias' claim of being the first to volunteer for the Union was left to stand by most people.

Captain Josias R. King died on February 19, 1916, Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Viewing the Facade

I've posted a similar photo of the St Paul Cathedral a few years ago, actually over four years ago. I was around the area again, photographing the surroundings, and couldn't pass the opportunity of this photo. Seeing the group of people, pointing and looking up at the facade, really made this one stand out too me.

Contrast In Design

St Paul Cathedral

I believe this is the north side of the Cathedral in St Paul. I'm always surprised at the detail that went into the construction of this building. It's easily missed until you get out of your car and walk up to see it.

Cathedral From A Far

I've always wanted to take night photos of the Cathedral in St Paul, but until my cold, wintry night, I'd never taken the time to do so. Since it was in plain site from my vantage point, I took a couple of distant shots. I believe I used 4X zoom for the shot. It's a touch on the grainy side, but I'll live with the quality of it for what I take photos with. In the bottom right corner is the Science Museum of Minnesota. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe just to the left of the museum, is the 7 Corners Hardware store. Settings: f/5.6 3.22 sec Canon PowerShot A640

High Atop The Highest Hill

The Cathedral sits on the highest point in St Paul so it can be visible for miles. I'm at a very low vantage point for this photo, but I really like this shot because of the road leading in the direction of the Cathedral. I know the road doesn't directly go to the chapel, but it gives the illusion that it does.

Beauty And The Beast

I've seen this shot in the past by another local photographer and it's always stood out in my mind because of the contrasts between the two buildings. There I was a few weeks ago, in the exact spot for this shot, I had to have one that I could call my own. I left one clue in the photo for the other local daily photo bloggers to figure out where I am standing for this shot. I do wish I had taken this photo a little later in the spring when there would be leaves on the trees to add in more color.
