DIY Snow Castle

My wife and I can be found walking in our neighborhood, two or three times per week, since the walking track at Park High School's Activity Center closed, due to Covid. It has yet to reopened. Some of our walks, we are amazed with our neighborhood finds.

A couple blocks down and around the corner from my home, one of the neighbors has created this ginormous, DIY snow castle. We first saw this structure when they were working on the third layer. I can confirm there are plywood boards used in the snow castle to help with support. The fourth layer was new to us this week. We unfortunately did not dress warm enough for the 13 degree temperature, so it was a quick walk.

I would estimate this is 40-45 feet tall.

It's Still Snowing

Good times here in Minnesota. It won't stop snowing.

Snow Fest 2023

I believe we received 15.5" inches of snow in my city. It was enough to camouflage the mailbox. My work gave us a snow day and that was a great way to welcome in the new year.

Winter Scenery From My Door Step

I do post this shot quite often in the winter months. It's always a unique scene.

It's So Bright

Nighttime photography is so much easier when there is snow everywhere.

Winter Is Here

We've had a little bit of snow, but after this 8.5" inches of snow fell, I officially declare the season of winter has begun.

Queue the White Walkers....

Wintery Delight

The snow plows went by, the ground was fairly warm, so it cleared off really fast. It was such a site to see.

Yet Another Snow Storm

I was really making an effort to not post snow photos this season, but we've had so many snow storms and the scenic opportunities were plentiful. I couldn't pass them up. We are darn close to 17 inches of snow for the month of April. We lost power to my home last night and awoke to snow clung to all of the branches, wires, poles and anything that was outdoors was covered in white.

Even though it has officially been spring for one month now, we have yet to experience any spring like weather. We just picked up another 4-6 inches of snow. On the plus side, it is melting very fast with the strong rays of the sun. It's just been unusual not being able to do anything out in my yard.

Morning Commute

Just your typical day in April in the Twin Cities. Okay, no it isn't. Our average high temp is 54 degrees, however, winter isn't ready to leave us. So be it. I'm just glad the majority of my drive into work looks like this. Hello to all of you heading north on 35E into St Paul. Never mind that yellow on the GPS, we were just driving slower than normal.

Snow Cover

Probably about the time you read this, if its the day of this posting, it should be snowing here in the Twin Cities. How much will we get is any bodies guess.

Snow Creation 2013

Last winter, swc submitted a photo of a puffer fish made of snow. He found it near his neighborhood that someone made in their front yard of their house. This year he returned and sure enough, they had created a snow walrus. I wonder how many years they have been doing this.

The Snow Thing

What a great find by swc an unusual creation from the little snow that we've had this season. It looks similar to a puffer fish to me or perhaps a dogs chew toy. Thank you for the contribution.

White Out

Since we have hardly had much snow this year, here is another from last winters snow storm that produced a lot of great photos.

For Those Of You Missing The Snow

Here in the Twin Cities, we've yet to have a snow fall of more than a couple of inches. In fact, I've only shoveled one time, and I didn't even break a sweat with my effort. It's really a strange winter for us. Here in the Twin Cities, we've yet to have a snow fall of more than a couple of inches. In fact, I've only shoveled one time, and I didn't even break a sweat with my effort. It's really a strange winter for us. Even my kids were excited to see the snow the other day when it snowed just enough to make the ground white, but not enough to shovel. I also have yet to hear one complaint about the lack of snow. This is however, a far cry from last year, which gave us our second or third snowiest winter on record. Today's photo was from the top of my driveway looking at the large mounds of snow at the bottom of my driveway. Boy that was fun moving all that snow, not.

It's Snow Time Once Again

I'm unsure who invited it, but the snow has returned to the Twin Cities.

Hopeful

A good sign summer is almost here, I'm already starting to see the beach chairs out on our beaches, even though our lakes are still frozen. They put them out so you can watch the ice melt away on warm spring days. Relaxing

The weather is warming, the snow is melting....time to relax and watch the snow disappear.

Monsters Under The Bed

There really are monsters hiding under the bed. Another great snow sculpture from a local artist that was created during the St Paul Winter Carnival. There really are monsters hiding under the bed. Wanna Go For A Ride

One of the clever snow sculptures that was created during the St Paul Winter Carnival. All of the snow sculptures were housed at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds.
