Located at 991 Dodd Road in West St Paul, Albert Park has been listed in Ripley's Believe It Or Not as the worlds "smallest dedicated park in the USA". The park was dedicated in 1967, but I'm unsure of when Ripley's included it into their book. There is even an Albert Park Facebook Page that you can like.
I spotted this 'in memory' plaque sitting under a park bench at Minnehaha Falls. Was it a favorite sitting bench? Who added the in memory plaque? Does the person who added the dedication still come to visit the bench?
This water wheel house, built in 1951 at Como Park can be found in the bird yard. I absolutely love the rust colored stone walls. Como Park has been around since 1897 and is a publicly funded park, though it survives by donations from the users of the park and local companies who donate.
From yesterday's comments, Keropok Man said it would be a nice place to sit and do nothing. How true it is, there are a few benches to sit and enjoy the view. You can see one across the water, there is also a bench behind me where I took this photo from. The city turned this area into a nice place to sit and think.
This area, as nice as it looks, is really just a holding pond for when it rains heavy in Cottage Grove. It does make for a great reflective image for the camera. If you look closely, in the distance, there are telephone poles that travel along the road. Trust me, it is there.
I made a quick stop in Cottage Grove to a small park along 70th street. I'd been wanting to stop there for a few photo ideas. While walking to my destination, I noticed this bench illuminated by the low setting sun, it looked "electric".
Sorry to say, this is not the two towers from the Lord Of The Rings series. Instead, these two towers can be found on Harriot Island across the Mississippi River from downtown St Paul. This is a new addition to the park where summer concerts are held.
It's like night and day. I found a photo from about six months ago of Nicollet Commons Park during a very hot day in Burnsville. I recently posted a snow photo of the very same park on February 5, 2007. I'm posting the summer photo to show the huge change in weather we have around here for those of you who do not have four seasons.
I believe the name of this park is Nicollet Commons located in Burnsville. It's fairly new to the area as there used to be buildings on this lot if I'm not mistaken. It's been a while since the buildings were there and this entire area has completely changed beyond recognition. I can tell you, in the summer months there is lots of water in areas of this park. Perhaps you can pick a few of them out from this photo.
In West St Paul, there is this very small triangle patch of grass with a small monument as shown in the photo. There is a road surrounding the park, Dodd Road, Smith Avenue and Butler Avenue if I recall correctly. It's actually a park, Albert Park. Perhaps it is a grave stone and the guys first and last name is Albert Park. Perhaps this is the gravestone for Uncle Albert that the Beatles sing about in their Uncle Albert song?. I really do not know and it's something I've always wondered about. Is it really a park to play at, which you would end up playing in traffic at some point as there is traffic within reach, or is it the worlds smallest cemetery with only one tombstone?
