Smith Avenue Bridge

This is the Smith Avenue Bridge, officially known as National Bridge Number ID #62090, but to locals, it's simply called 'The High Bridge'. Standing at 160 feet, it is the tallest bridge in Minnesota. Stretching 2,760 feet in length, it connects St. Paul’s West Side neighborhood with the West End neighborhood.

Hasting Bridge At Sunset

The Hastings Bridge does have a lot of great locations to capture it well. Throwing in a blooming sunset just adds to it.

Stillwater Lift Bridge's New Assignment

If you've lived in anywhere near the Stillwater Lift Bridge, you must have driven over this bridge at least once. Since the new bridge, down the river opened, this was my first time walking across the iconic bridge.

Duluth Lift Bridge At Night

We came back to the Duluth Lift Bridge the next night. A lot less wind, about 35 F degrees, and calmer waters.

Lift Bridge

The often photographed, Duluth Lift Bridge. The most amazing part about this photo is the lack of people in the shot.

Orange Triangle Delight

The last time I was under the Hastings Bridge, the orange triangles were not installed. I like that there are so many of them.

Hastings Bridge Circa 2006

One of my old captures, that I believe, never made it to my blog of the Hasting bridge, that crosses the Mississippi River. Today, there is a new bridge being built along side the one in the photo that is nearly completed. Once the new bridge is complete, they will tear down the old bridge, then build a second bridge to expand the lanes of traffic.

Stone Arch Bridge

I've never photographed the Stone Arch Bridge, but I see many photos of it from the local bloggers. This photo is from a distance and I was in quite a hurry. Here is more info about the bridge:
The Stone Arch Bridge is the only bridge of its kind over the Mississippi River. It is made of native granite and limestone, and measures 2100-feet long by 28-feet wide. The bridge consists of 23 arches, and spans the river below St. Anthony Falls in Minneapolis.

Kaministiqua

I'm pretty sure this is the 700+ foot cargo ship entering the port in Duluth. It was on it's way to get loaded up at one of the energy companies. I'm pretty sure this is the 700+ foot cargo ship entering the port in Duluth. It was on it's way to get loaded up at one of the energy companies. Watching the ships enter is quite the draw of people. There were several hundred here to see it in action. Most ships arrive empty and leave with a full belly of various material.

Keystone

An interesting bridge that gets a lot of travel from above and below. Below is a separate walking and bike path, plus a channel between two different lakes. Above is a four lane road and another walkway. Personally, I like the workman ship of the bridge, the keystone, the brickwork. Surely not a modern made bridge.

Stillwater Lift Bridge

The lift bridge in Stillwater, crossing the St Croix River, is in major need of replacement. It's quite the icon of a bridge, but it's days are coming to an end. Framework

I never realized how thin the platform is on the Hastings Bridge that vehicles drive on.

Old Hastings Bridge

If you look closely as they are somewhat hidden, you'll see two crains near the right side of the bridge. Those are currently being used for construction of a new bridge. The one pictured is in dire need of replacement, thankfully they are working on the first of two bridge that will replace this one.

Under The 35W Bridge

Contribution photo from Bryan B of the 35W bridge that crosses the Mississippi River. If you recall, in August 2007, the 35W bridge collapsed during the evening rush hour traffic. Many lives were lost, people were stunned at what happened. They have since rebuilt the 35W bridge and things are back to normal. I have not personally visited the bridge yet, but must do so one of these nights. It makes for some great photography. Thanks Bryan for the photo.
