Gooseberry Falls

Gooseberry Falls was amazing, it was my first visit to the Falls. There are three different areas to the falls, this is the upper section.

View From Below

We only had ten minutes to view the Split Rock Lighthouse in Two Harbors off of Lake Superior before the park closed. So we went to the scenic spot for photos, just as the sun was setting. We were treated to an amazing sky, colors, lighting, and view.

Frosty Trees

I awoke yesterday morning to a great winter treat. During the middle of the night, a thick frost or fog rolled into my area and frosted the smaller tree branches, giving them a "fuzzy" look. It was quite a sight to see. I didn't snap as many photos as I would have liked as I was on my way into work. Lucky for me I took the photos when I did, as I made my way closer to work, the sun broke through the clouds and the frost disappeared.

James And The Giant Mushroom

I did find this mushroom on a recent camping trip. It was the size of a grapefruit and the setting sun gave it the perfect lighting. The sequel to the book 'James and the Giant Peach'. Okay, I made that up. I did find this mushroom on a recent camping trip. It was the size of a grapefruit and the setting sun gave it the perfect lighting.

A Perfect Location

From the sixth floor window of the Northland Inn, located in Maple Grove, my wife spotted this birds in the From the sixth floor window of the Northland Inn, located in Maple Grove, my wife spotted this birds in the "A" of their sign. It was a surprise find indeed and something you would be able to see from the ground level. We never saw any birds fly to the nest, but some bird will have a great location for next spring.

Frosting Trees

We had a very interesting snow storm, furies, fog, fluffy, very light, not much of anything really roll through town last weekend....oh what a sight mother nature left for us. Trees were frosted from top to bottom. I've seen people take a photo like this and make a negative of the photo which makes the trees look like this. This photo is the real deal. I gave my son the camera while I was driving as he had the best view on his side of the car. He captured a couple of decent shots along our journey....

A Victim Of Mother Nature

This very large tree was no match for Mother Nature along the shore of the St Croix River. In all honesty, the photo does not show the size of the tree. It looks rather small in the photo, but it was probably the largest tree in the area that I was in for the photo. If you look close, there is a bird house attached to the midsection of the tree on the left of the trunk. The hole for the birds was about the size of a softball, which is made for very large birds that would nest inside.

St Croix River Flooding

flooded waters on the St Croix River Almost without fail, as the snow melts away and flows downstream, the St Croix River spills over it's banks. It's only a couple of feet above flood stage as you can see by the large growing trees in standing water.

February's Drive By Shooting

You know when you drive down the road and there is a corn field with perfect rows of corn. It's almost hypnotic to watch the pattern as you pass alongside it. Now take the end of the growing season, the fields have been cut and throw in just a touch of snow and you have rows and rows of corn. It still had the same affect as we drove down the road. Hopefully this photo captured what I saw that afternoon.
