Minnesota Gopher Stadium

The new Gopher Stadium finally built back on campus seats 50,805 and is horseshoe in design. There is room for future expansion to bring the total seating capacity to 80,000 seats. I'm unsure where the expansion would take place to raise the number of seats. Easily they could remove the horseshoe shape and complete the oval, but is that the expansion they are talking about or is there a much simpler option that I'm not seeing?

Actually, the U has no plans to ever close in the open end of the horseshoe. The second deck was built with a concourse already in place. So, if there is a need to expand, it can be done from the press box (where the small video board is in this photo) all the way around to the other end of the horseshoe. That would give the stadium an approximately 30,000 more seats.

Ahhh, that makes sense, it would complete the top portion of the stadium. Thanks for the info Andy, I have not made it into the stadium so far, only the outside looking in.

I am glad they won't be completing the horseshoe. That would take away the classic look and the great view of downtown....
