Morning Commute

Just your typical day in April in the Twin Cities. Okay, no it isn't. Our average high temp is 54 degrees, however, winter isn't ready to leave us. So be it. I'm just glad the majority of my drive into work looks like this. Hello to all of you heading north on 35E into St Paul. Never mind that yellow on the GPS, we were just driving slower than normal.

Neon Lights

The frozen reflection really makes this photo stand out too me. If only I could have moved all of the vehicles for this shot.

Impressive Storm Front

While driving through Eagan last week, I was faced with these impressive storm clouds. I couldn't tell you which day it was exactly because I believe we had rain every day last week.

Change In Seasons

I'm going to jump back a couple months to the beginning of the colorful fall weather. One of my dislikes about taking photos of snow is, the photos all tend to appear black and white, when the intent is a color photo.

An E Please

Not sure if it was the subzero weather at the time I took this photo or if the 'E' is truly on the fritz, regardless, it was a very cold night for the setup of this photo along Cliff Road in Eagan.

Spoiled Kid Sale

a garage sale sign that reads, spoiled kid sale. One has to appreciate the honesty this parent has with this custom garage sale sign I drove past the other day. After I passed the sign and realized what it said, I had to turn around, go back and capture a photo. It was too good to pass up.

Capture Of The Moment

Got this one driving home yesterday from work. It was about an hour before sun set, a storm was passing through, I was waiting for the red arrow to turn green to make my way onto 35E. This was actually a bit of a challenge as my windshield wipers was in motion. I had to take the photo just after the blade passed my view. I can't see a drop of rain in the photo, but trust me, it was raining lightly when I snapped the shutter. I really like the reflection from the signal light, but what really stands out is the color of the road almost matches the sky perfectly.

I'm Gonna Break My Rusty Cage And Run

A very rusty tow truck. Found this very rusty tow truck located in Eagan, just off the beaten path of Highway 13. Makes me wonder if Mark's Towing is still in business.

Attack Of The Snow Storm

well, we may be getting snow up here in the Twin Cities, but this photo is not from the latest round of snow. It was from an earlier storm, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to post this one. It's a snow photo, with a splash of color in there, but only a splash. Can you all think spring with me now? Someone start the chant with me "here we go spring time, here we go" "here we go spring time, here we go"....someone put that ground hog away before he sees his shadow again!

Weee, More Snow

snow storm hits the twin cities More from the latest snow storm that passed through this area. Have you ever seen snow collect on an object in this manner before?

It Was Snowing Sideways

We had a fun little snow storm pass through here at the end of last week. The temperature was right at the freezing mark, the wind was blowing east to west of all directions. The wind speed had enough gusto to give the appearance of the snow falling sideways. It was a heavy, wet snow that was clinging to anything in it's path. When I drove down Cliff Road on my way to work, I did all I could to see what color the stop light was. In reality, I had to look at what the lights on the cross streets was to decide what the color of my light was as I approached the intersection. When I made a return trip down the opposite direction on Cliff Road, the heat from the 'green' light was enough to melt the snow off, but the red and yellow shows what all three of the lights looked like.

Under A Blood Red Sky

Strange thing about this photo, this is not what I originally wanted to take a photo of. I'm more than happy with the result of the sunset photo. I have never seen this much red sky that I can recall. I was driving north on 35E on my way home, looking westerly when I could at the brilliant red sky as you see in the photo. I looked to the east through a clearing of the trees and saw a sight I still have a hard time believing what I was seeing.

To set this up in your mind, a short rain shower had passed through close to sunset. The pinkish red sky was dominate throughout the western sky. The sun was within minutes of setting beyond the horizon. When I looked to the east, I saw a rainbow. Keep in mind, the sky was pinkish red and SO WAS THE RAINBOW to the east. You could literally see several shades of pink gradually getting darker like you would see in full daylight rainbow, but it was only shades of pink. It was the most unique thing I've ever seen with the weather. I had to get a photo of that pink rainbow. I quickly took the next exit off of the highway. About a block or two off the highway was a parking lot for a large retail store. I made it too the lot, put my car in park, grabbed my camera and before I could get a shot off, the sun had set too much and the pink rainbow was gone.

So I'll settle for this outrageous blood red sky.

Minnesota Bridge Number 19816

I've sat at this light many times before on my way home from work. I sit in the turn lane on a bridge that crosses 35E in Eagan. Until a couple weeks ago, when the sun was setting, the light must have been just right. I saw the plaque you see in the photo embedded into the side wall. Bridge number 19816 was built in 1983 and is 310 feet long. It has a sufficient rating of 96.5 as of September 12, 2007. I do like the added touch of the rebar poking through the street surface. Okay, I really don't like it. It is there for a reason right?

Enjoy The Holiday Weekend

If you're in Minnesota, watch the speeds, stay between the lines. The state patrol is working the highways in force during the final weekend before schools begins. I was out and about this evening and can verify the increased police activity.
