Painting With Style Revisit

I thought I was taking a photo of the Valspar Building. As I'm typing, I realized they refreshed the paint job on the building. I had captured the same building back in 2006, which you can see here with the original paint. Today, it is now the Sherwin Williams Building. It makes sense they refreshed the paint job, and I wouldn't have looked closer if they hadn't. Nice to see they kept the familiar feel to the building as well.

Kat-Keys Locksmith

It's a simple mural, but it really stands out for their business logo. I was thinking Kat-Keys has been around for ever, and according to their website, it says they have served their community since 1924.

Bullwinkle's Saloon & Fun Bar

I've never been inside of Bullwinkle's Saloon, but I've been told it's a very long bar, like it was a bowling ally in it's past life. No idea?

North Pole on Newport

One of our family favorites is the North Pole restaurant in Newport. Also was recently featured in an independent movie called “Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter”.

Steve's World

Back in May, I found a place called Steve's Wine Market, a store with my name on it. While driving through the city of Mora, I found Steve's World!

Stub & Herb's

I hear a lot about this place, but I've never stepped inside the building. It's located on the U of M campus and is near the place where I park when I watch basketball or hockey games. One of these days I will have to stop inside.

Popcorn Stand

While sitting at a stoplight in Stillwater, this popcorn stand caught my eye.

Jack MacDonald TV

I used to live not far from Jack MacDonalds TV repair shop about twenty years ago. I'm wondering how long they have been at this location. I used to live not far from Jack MacDonalds TV repair shop about twenty years ago. I'm wondering how long they have been at this location. What's disturbing to me is, I cannot recall if this business was here before or after I left the neighborhood. I guess we never had to use their service so it doesn't stand out to me.

Competition

If you look closely at this photo, on the left side of the hallway, above the store entrance is the Apple logo. The logo above the store on the right side of the hallway belongs to Microsoft. If you look closely at this photo, on the left side of the hallway, above the store entrance is the Apple logo. This store has all of the latest ipod's, iphone's, mac books and everything else related to Apples product line. During the first week in November of 2010, right across the hallway, the competition moved in. The logo above the store on the right side of the hallway belongs to Microsoft. They of course have their xbox, Windows Phone, Zune's, and the rest of their product line. I do have to hand it to Microsoft for moving into Apple's neighborhood. I wonder if they were offered a house warming gift?

Carbones On Smith

When I lived in this neighborhood, it was the place we called for pizza. Carbones on Smith was how they answered the phone, they delivered. While Carbones is gone from this location, there are a number of stores throughout the Twin Cities that thrive today. I'm not sure what the name of the store is today, though it looks like it sells household goods. I'm not sure if it's new or used goods, perhaps both. However, when I lived in this neighborhood, it was the place we called for pizza. "Carbones on Smith" was how they answered the phone, they delivered. While Carbones is gone from this location, there are a number of stores throughout the Twin Cities that thrive today.

Moonlight Building

I have to say, I know nothing about this building. I believe it's some sort of bar, the smaller sign reads 'Blues Saloon'. I would have to guess the place has musical entertainment in that music genera. I pulled up to a four way stop sign and saw this building for the first time....as a photo blogger, how could you not take a photograph of this great looking building?

Just looking at the building, it's obviously had a make over recently. I would have to guess, this may have housed a small business on the first floor at one time in its history with living space on the upper floors. That's very common in the Twin Cities as I'm sure it is with many cities with this type of building. I would imagine, the paint job is to mask the different colors of brick. I would bet there was lots of glass on the first floor, but has now been covered. Just a guess, but I'm sure someone has a historic photo of this building. It is located in St Paul, on the corner of Western Avenue and Thomas Avenue.

Little Green Store

Hopefully someone from the Inver Grove Heights area can comment here as I'm not positive on the history of this place. I had visited the Little Green Store a couple times. I thought I remember it being called the Green Store, but the faded sign reads 'Little Green'. Hopefully someone from the Inver Grove Heights area can comment here as I'm not positive on the history of this place. I had visited the Little Green Store a couple times twenty plus years ago, I had a friend that lived not far from here. I thought I remember it being called the 'Green Store', as the faded sign above the store reads 'Little Green'. I'm sure that must have been it and I just don't recall it correctly. However, this place must have changed ownership as the official sign, which is not pictured, now reads 'Heights Superette'. Anyone in IGH land know any additional history on the place or can you fill in the holes of my story?

Nickel Joint

Believe it or not, about one block over and two blocks to the north from Tuesday's photo is the Nickel Joint. The Nickel Joint also carries the Schmidt Beer logo above their doors. Now I can say that I have been in this establishment in the past, once that I'm aware of. It was for a surprise 30th birthday party for an aunt of mine.

Family Inn Bar

While driving, I did a double take and had to drive around the block to verify what I just saw in this photo. Upon further review, my vision was correct. I did just see a bar named "Family Inn". Does that seam strange to you?

The Schmidt Beer sign is actually becoming a sign of the times. Schmidt Beer has not been brewed in St Paul in, hummm, 15-18 years now? These signs are becoming harder to find as the old places go out of business.

La Guadalupana

I was sitting at the light where George Street, State Street and Concord Avenue all meet together. I was sitting at a light that I normally don't drive on and realized how large of a sign La Guadalupana really has. That font is massive! Anyway, this grocery store can be found in St Paul's West Side neighborhood. It's located on Cesar Chavez Street [old Concord Avenue].
